Abstract
The Penans despite having permanent settlements and cultivating rice and vegetables on small farms, still dependent on jungle produce for food and other basic necessities.When loggong and Oil Palm activities were commenced by the Company, the Penans felt their livelihood and their land rights were infringed upon.The Penans raised their concerns,fears and apprehensions to the SUHAKAM via two headman, chief Alung Ju and Chief Matu Tugang both from Belaga,and SUHAKAM responded to their complaints.
